The Terminal Buildings is a historic warehouse complex located across the Monongahela River from downtown Pittsburgh. The project intent is to convert the mostly vacant warehouse spaces into loft-type offices and other related uses. The existing urban character of the large masonry structures and private street between main buildings of complex is to be retained as a featured component of the design. The redevelopment plan features improved access to the complex and circulation within the individual buildings through construction of new parking facilities, upgrades to existing walkways, and development of new vertical and horizontal circulation and building core elements. Cores are to be compactly arranged to include all elevators, toilet rooms, mechanical and electrical rooms and other service spaces as a means of maximizing the flexibility of the building's floor plates for tenant spaces. Many of the existing features of the building, such as masonry walls, window openings, concrete floor structure, etc. to be retained as elements of the new design. |
