A new housing "community" that provides a transitional, independent living experience for upperclass students nearing graduation. Buildings are designed to have distinct street and lawn facades to reflect a differentiation between "public" and "private" faces. Private facades open onto landscaped lawn areas and incorporate exterior covered porches to encourage interaction between residents and to foster a greater sense of community. Sustainable features for the site include innovative stormwater manage-ment systems that minimize outflows from the site to equal pre-development levels. In addition, heating and cooling systems utilize a ground-source heat transfer system to signi-ficantly reduce energy consum-ption. Interiors of units are open and bright, and designed to flexibly accommodate the fast-paced lifestyles of four college students. |
