The goal of the master plan for this new culinary arts school campus is to establish an intimate, self-sustaining, learning and living environment that is naturally integrated into its rural setting. It seeks to create opportunities for the establishment of varied spatial experiences, from formal open plazas, to courtyards framed by building clusters, to natural walking paths cut through the existing natural landforms. The campus is planned to limit vehicular traffic, through the use of a large perimeter parking area and extensive pedestrian paths. All of the facilities on the campus are arranged according to a hierarchy of usage, from public (academic and administrative) to private (residential and recreational), and have been integrated into the existing contours of the land. The entire campus will serve as a laboratory to explore and implement opportunities for sustainable development and operation.
