A master plan study was undertaken to determine an appropriate strategy for campus expansion to allow St. Edmund's Academy to optimize its educational program and support spaces to support the school's activity-based learning focus. Educational program areas for the renovated and expanded facilities are to include: project rooms, science and computer labs, and a wide range of flexible-use spaces to complement traditional classroom settings. The building's organization is optimized to allow for separation of different grade levels, while continuing to foster interaction between students, faculty, and staff. The proposed new campus design features a new main entrance to the school, development of new "public" spaces, including field house, cafeteria, and gallery, and strengthened organization and identity of upper and lower school components. Enclosed, private exterior spaces are also integrated with buildings and program spaces to enhance the campus' character.
